Arctic Paper Kostrzyn S.A., a subsidiary of the Arctic Paper Group, signed an agreement with the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) for co-financing of the project “Development and implementation of production technology for high-quality graphic papers having reduced content of wood fibers, increased opacity and bending stiffness due to the application of polymer crosslinker” under the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014–2020. The total net value of the project is over PLN 40 million, with the maximum value of co-financing of about PLN 16.4 million.
The new technology for production of high-quality graphic papers with increased opacity and bending stiffness will enable production of papers with less use of wood fibres. This type of paper will be able to be used in printing, direct advertising, envelopes and packaging.
“Starting a new innovative project with financial support from NCBiR is another important step towards increasing the flexibility of production in our paper mills and preparing the company for the changing needs of the market,” said Michał Jarczyński, CEO of Arctic Paper S.A. “The development and implementation of a new production technology will enable us to extend the range of our products by adding low-grammage graphic papers, envelope paper and bag paper. We are constantly working on reducing costs, increasing efficiency and developing our product portfolio in order to improve our margins.”
Arctic Paper Kostrzyn is the largest producer of offset paper in Poland and the second-largest producer of graphic paper. After the recent completion of the EBRD-financed investment in the PM1 paper machine, the plant has increased its annual production capacity to 315,000 tonnes. Arctic Paper Kostrzyn is the largest of the three paper mills of the Arctic Paper Group.
